Etymology of the word ‘etymology’; The word shares its ending with many sciences, the ‘ology’ meaning ‘Study of’ and comes from the Greek languiage. The first part, ‘Etym’ also comes from the Greeks, it’s meaning being ‘true’, so literally it means to study the truth, but more likely it referred to the ‘true sense’ and then, as now it meant the ‘Study of the true sense’ of a word.
