Scrutiny – To cut

Scrutiny – to analyse something. The word comes from the Latin ‘scrutinium’ which meant to examine something, it was also used to mean ‘to decide by vote’. Comes from the Proto-Indo-European word ‘skreu’ meaning ‘to cut’ which is also the source of the word ‘shred’.
