Berk – Cockney rhyming slang

‘Berk’ meaning to be a fool.

This word is a fairly recent one; dating back to the 1930s, it is a shortening of the cockney rhyming slang term ‘Berkeley hunt’ – meaning ‘cunt’. The Berkeley hunt being a well-known fox hunt from Berkely castle in Gloucestershire. Since it’s origins, it has become a less offensive term, meaning someone who is a bit foolish.
