​French fries – Fried things from France

French Fries – long, thin pieces of potato whih have been fried.

French fries were first seen in the 1840s in Paris, they bacame popular very quickly and were sold from carts as street food. From Paris, they travelled around the world, it was in the USA that they got the name ‘French fried potatoes’ for obvious reasons, then in the 1930s the name was shortened to simply ‘French fries’.
