Engineer – War machine maker

Engineer: A person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or structures.

‘Engineer’ joined the English language as ‘enginour’ in the 1300s, it’s a word that came over with the French and is a slight corruption of their word ‘engigneor’. At this time it referred specifically to people who worked on machines related to war, only gaining it’s more general use in he 1600s.
