Race – From the Old French word ‘Razza’

Race – Each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics.

The word ‘race’ has been in use in English since the 16th century when it entered our language via the French when they were in control of Britain. The word was derived from an earlier French word ‘razza’ which meant the same thing.
